If your eyes are the window to your soul, your skin is the window to your health. Your skin reflects what you eat, so topical creams and lotions can do a lot for the appearance of your skin. As aging begins from the inside out, it is logical to start taking care of your skin from the inside out by eating right.
We’ve researched the foods that are most beneficial for your skin, and we want to share our findings with you.
Anti-Aging Foods For Beautiful Skin
Fatty Fish
Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, mackerel, herring, sardines, tuna) are essential for healthy and radiant skin. Omega-3 fatty acids keep skin plump and hydrated and reduce inflammation.
These fish are also a good source of antioxidant vitamin E, as well as zinc, a mineral that heals wounds and helps clear acne and irritation.
Walnuts
Like fish, walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamin E. In addition, they contain other minerals and vitamins that help keep skin young and radiant, such as several B vitamins (including folic acid, which prevents dermatitis,) selenium (which is another good antioxidant for the skin), and vitamin C (which has anti-aging properties).
Nuts are especially beneficial, with nuts like almonds and cashews coming second and third.
Avocado
Avocados are another food rich in healthy fats, which help improve skin elasticity and the hydration barrier. They are also rich in carotenoids, which protect your skin from sun damage.
However, what makes avocado stand out is that it contains D-mannoheptulose, a unique phytochemical that stimulates collagen production.
Green Tea
One of the favorite drinks of many people, green tea is not only tasty but also very beneficial for the health of the skin.
It’s packed with polyphenols and catechins, antioxidants that protect your skin from sun damage (although you should still wear sunscreen) and reduce skin redness by fighting inflammation.
Yogurt And Kefir
Yogurt and kefir are packed with live probiotics that help your skin look youthful by reducing redness, irritation, and acne. Friendly bacteria fight inflammation in the gut, which is where many skin problems originate.
You can also apply yogurt topically to rejuvenate your skin – the lactic acid in yogurt has anti-aging and exfoliating properties that reduce fine lines and give your face a healthy glow.
Honey
Honey is naturally antibacterial, antioxidant, and moisturizing, so it’s no wonder it’s so beneficial for your skin. While it’s commonly used in DIY face masks and applied topically to reduce inflammation, treat acne, and hydrate dry skin, eating honey is also a good idea, especially if you’re substituting other sweets for honey.
